Disrupt Berlin extends the Startup Battlefield application deadline

Zögern sich. Roughly translated (and boy, do we mean roughly), that’s procrastinators rejoice. Why all the excitement? Early stage startup entrepreneurs now have an extra week to complete their applications and compete in Disrupt Berlin’s Startup Battlefield. Applications will now remain open until October 2 at 5 p.m. PT. Still, this is no time to dawdle if you want a shot at… Read More

Over the weekend, Waymo filed a document with the court noting that the correct figure was actually  $1.859 billion. #OUREntrepidNetwork – Introducing Boyan Slat and The Ocean Cleanup

www.boyanslat.com

The Ocean Cleanup’s mission is to develop advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic.

In their own words (source – https://www.linkedin.com/company/2836723/)

Boyan Slat is a Dutch inventor and entrepreneur creating technologies to solve societal problems. He is the founder and CEO of The Ocean Cleanup, which develops advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. Boyan founded this effort when he was just 16 years old.

The main idea behind The Ocean Cleanup is to let the ocean currents do the work. An installation of Ushaped screens channels floating plastic to a central point. The concentrated plastic can then be extracted and shipped to shore for recycling into durable products. Our passive systems will remove half the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in 5 years.

The cambrian moment in our innovation economy

According to Re-Imagine group chairman and serial tech entrepreneur Peter Hirshberg, we are at a decisive moment in our innovation economy.  Silicon Valley – or, at least, the “ethos of Silicon Valley” – is spreading all over America, Hirshberg insists. And Silicon Valley is reinventing what he calls “secondary” places like Youngstown, Ohio or… Read More

The new electronic police state

Although the Fourth Amendment protects us and our “effects” from “unreasonable searches and seizures,” Customs and Border Protection agents can take advantage of an exception to this constitutional protection and search our electronic devices at airports without first establishing reasonable suspicion or securing a warrant. It’s a problem that’s only… Read More

The abyss of analytics

I want to talk about a mistake I see client after client making. (I work at a tech consultancy. We have a lot of clients. Not all of them make this mistake! …But many do.) That mistake is to obsess over analytics data, without any strategy; to assume that all that needs to be done is to gather as much data as possible, and then this data will magically become knowledge, and knowledge… Read More

Automakers accelerate their interest in startups
