Empowering our military veterans as leaders in innovation and entrepreneurship

In their own words (www.bunkerlabs.org/about-the-bunker)

BUNKER LABS IS A NATIONAL NOT-FOR-PROFIT 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATION BUILT BY MILITARY VETERAN ENTREPRENEURS TO EMPOWER OTHER MILITARY VETERANS AS LEADERS IN INNOVATION.

Through local chapters across the U.S., Bunker Labs provides educational programming, access to resources, and a thriving local network to help military veterans and their spouses start and grow businesses.

We work to Inspire, Educate, and Connect veterans with the right resources and people locally to be successful, while also providing national tools and resources like: Launch Lab Online or our Community Mobile App to support aspiring entrepreneurs where ever they may currently live or be stationed.

INSPIRE. Through our online entrepreneurship challenge, the Bunker in a Box offers hundreds of hours of content as well as interviews with military veterans who have successfully transitioned from the military and started their own business. Learn how they did it and start your own journey towards entrepreneurship as well.

EDUCATE. Aspiring entrepreneurs with an idea for a business are invited to participate in the Entrepreneurial Program for Innovation and Collaboration (EPIC) whether through one of our virtual cohorts or in person at one of our chapters. In this program you will learn and apply the practical steps of launching your business from entrepreneurs who have been-there / done-that.

CONNECT. Bunker Labs invites veterans, entrepreneurs, investors, and subject matter experts to join our national community through our monthly Bunker Brews meet ups in each of our chapter cities, as well as through our Muster Across America tour. Whether returning home after active duty, starting a business, exploring new careers, or growing a business—building your network is critical.

#OUREntrepidNetwork – Introducing Kevin Smith and SolarReserve

www.SolarReserve.com

24/7 on-demand, reliable electricity from a renewable source—the Sun.

In their own words (Linkedin.com/SolarReserve)

SolarReserve is a leading global developer of utility-scale solar power projects, which include electricity generation by solar thermal energy and photovoltaic panels. In addition, SolarReserve has commercialized a proprietary advanced solar thermal technology with integrated energy storage that solves the intermittency issues experienced with other renewable energy sources. This proven US-developed technology generates renewable baseload and dispatchable power and can compete with traditional fossil-fired and nuclear electricity generation.

Since the company’s formation in early 2008, SolarReserve has assembled an extensive global development pipeline of 8 gigawatts (GW) across the world’s most attractive, high growth renewable energy markets. The portfolio includes advanced solar thermal technology (Concentrating Solar Power or “CSP”), photovoltaic (PV) technology, and hybrid (combined CSP and PV). SolarReserve’s hybrid CSP/PV solutions eliminate the intermittency issues associated with PV-only projects while providing cost efficient and reliable electricity generation.

Lead by CEO Kevin Smith, SolarReserve is headquartered in Santa Monica, California, and has seven international offices located in Africa, the Americas, the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East, and Europe to support its widespread project development activities across more than 20 countries.

#OUREntrepidNetwork – Introducing Kate Oliver, Ellen Prasse and The Modern Caravan

www.themoderncaravan.com
www.themoderncaravan.com

WHAT IF WE SOLD EVERYTHING, BOUGHT A BUS, AND TRAVELED?

Founders Kate Oliver and Ellen Prasse of Austin, TX based The Modern Caravan left their full-time jobs to remodel Airstreams.

In their own words (www.themoderncaravan.com)

What we do.

We offer full design and renovation services for Airstreams and other alternative mobile dwellings, placing emphasis on human connection and relationships, reshaping the concept of home and life. We work hard to embrace imperfection in life while perfecting our craft.

Who we are.

We are a 100% women-owned and run renovation business specializing in full and completely custom renovation services for Airstreams and other timeless caravans. The work, from metal fabrication to delicate linen upholstery, is done with our two sets of hands.

The Name

MODERN: of or relating to the present or recent times as opposed to the remote past.

Our chosen aesthetic. Clean, simple, minimal, but more so, we take something dated, often neglected, worn, and broken and transform it into a functional, current, lovely space.

CARAVAN: a vehicle equipped for living in, typically towed by a car and used for vacations.

While our first love will always be the classic vintage Airstream, we’ve never wanted to limit ourselves. We intially wanted to buy a school bus or vintage motorhome. We’ve toyed with the idea of renovating a van! Moving forward, the sky is the limit as we pursue projects that feed our creative souls and push our physical limitations.

#OUREntrepidNetwork – Introducing Sam Polk and EveryTable

www.everytable.com
www.everytable.com

Every body. Every block. Everytable.

CEO Sam Polk and the Los Angeles based EveryTable team are making good food accessible as an affordable alternative to fast food.

In their own words (www.everytable.com)

Our mission is to make good food available to everyone. We price our meals according to the neighborhoods we serve. So when you eat at Everytable, you’re paying less and bringing better food to more communities.

Healthy food is a human right. But $9 green juices and $12 salads make healthy food a luxury most people can’t afford. In fact, many communities in the U.S. have so little access to healthy, affordable food, they’re called “food deserts.” These communities experience high rates of obesity, diabetes, and stress.

Our goal is to make good food accessible and affordable in every community. At each store, we price our meals according to the income of the surrounding neighborhood. We make sure our food is affordable, and that each store is profitable.

#OUREntrepidNetwork – Introducing Phil Graves and Patagonia Tin Shed Ventures

www.tinshedventures.com

Tin Shed Ventures – Investing in the Next Generation of Responsible Business

Director Phil Graves and the Patagonia Tin Shed Ventures really are leading by example.

In their own words (www.tinshedventures.com/about/)

Tin Shed Ventures is Patagonia’s corporate venture capital fund, which invests in start-ups that offer solutions to the environmental crisis. Originally launched as $20 Million and Change in May 2013, Tin Shed Ventures partners with businesses focused on building renewable energy infrastructure, practicing regenerative organic agriculture, conserving water, diverting waste and creating sustainable materials. The Tin Shed name is rooted in Patagonia’s history. In 1957, a young climber named Yvon Chouinard decided to make his own reusable hardware. Using supplies procured from a junkyard, he taught himself how to blacksmith. By 1970, Chouinard Equipment had become the largest supplier of climbing hardware in North America—produced in a tin shed in Ventura, California. But there was a problem. The company’s gear was damaging the rock as popular routes had to endure repeated hammering of steel pitons. So Chouinard decided to phase out of the piton business, even though it comprised 70 percent of the company’s sales at the time. He introduced an alternative: aluminum chocks that could be wedged in the rock and removed by hand, rather than hammered and left behind. The audacious move worked. Within a few months, the new chocks sold faster than they could be made. Patagonia has since expanded from a climbing hardware company into a global outdoor apparel brand with $800 million in sales while maintaining a strict commitment to sustainability in its products and supply chain. Tin Shed Ventures is funding the next generation of responsible business leaders who share these core values.
